Background of the Study
Lean supply chain management focuses on eliminating waste, optimizing processes, and increasing efficiency within the supply chain to create more value for customers with fewer resources. For financial institutions such as Guaranty Trust Bank, lean strategies are crucial in managing the flow of services, information, and resources to ensure that customer demands are met promptly while minimizing operational costs.
Guaranty Trust Bank, one of Nigeria's leading banks, has adopted lean supply chain practices to enhance its operational efficiency. These practices include reducing process bottlenecks, minimizing inventory costs, streamlining service delivery, and improving the quality of financial services. In Nasarawa State, where infrastructure challenges and regional economic conditions can affect service delivery, lean strategies play an important role in ensuring that the bank can provide quality services to its customers in a cost-effective manner.
This study aims to appraise the application of lean supply chain strategies at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State, evaluating their effectiveness in enhancing service delivery, reducing costs, and improving customer satisfaction.
Statement of the Problem
While lean supply chain strategies can significantly enhance operational efficiency, Guaranty Trust Bank may face challenges in implementing these strategies effectively in Nasarawa State. Issues such as regional infrastructure limitations, fluctuating demand for banking services, and resource constraints may hinder the full implementation of lean practices. The problem lies in assessing the effectiveness of lean supply chain strategies in the context of these challenges and determining how they influence operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the effectiveness of lean supply chain strategies at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State.
2. To assess the impact of lean supply chain management on service delivery and operational efficiency at Guaranty Trust Bank.
3. To identify challenges in implementing lean supply chain strategies at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State and propose solutions.
Research Questions
1. How effective are lean supply chain strategies in improving operational efficiency at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State?
2. What impact do lean supply chain strategies have on service delivery and customer satisfaction at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State?
3. What challenges does Guaranty Trust Bank face in implementing lean supply chain strategies in Nasarawa State, and how can these challenges be addressed?
Research Hypotheses
1. Lean supply chain strategies have a significant positive effect on operational efficiency at Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State.

3. Guaranty Trust Bank faces significant challenges in implementing lean supply chain strategies due to regional infrastructure and logistical constraints in Nasarawa State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on evaluating the lean supply chain strategies implemented by Guaranty Trust Bank in Nasarawa State, including process optimization, inventory management, and service delivery practices. Limitations include the availability of detailed internal data on supply chain practices and the potential reluctance of staff to share information on operational challenges.
